Health Care

Medical care, both primary and hospital, is generally very good, although expensive; so make sure that you have taken out GOOD holiday insurance from a reputable broker. Greece is a member of the European Union so if you are a European citizen you are entitled to healthcare under the local national health system. (I.K.A. here in Greece).  To qualify you must be able to produce your E111 certificate which you must arrange in your home country before departure. For primary health care IKA doctors are thin on the ground away from Corfu Town so we recommend that you take out appropriate health insurance. Should you find yourself in need of hospital treatment there is a national health hospital in the centre of Corfu Town (there is a new hospital under construction around 6 kms to the North at Kontokali). There are several private clinics, the most well known being the Corfu Clinic which is not far from the centre of town and the airport. In any event nursing is minimal, here it is taken as a family responsibility. So make sure friends and family know where you are.
